Mission, Vision, and Values for the Equity Department:
Our mission is to cultivate equity throughout the agency and the community.
Our vision is equitable outcomes and quality of services for all members of the community.
Our core values are Bravery, Respect, and Empathy for our Communities.
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) provides the following definition: “Health equity means that everyone has a fair and just opportunity to be as healthy as possible. This requires removing obstacles to health such as poverty, discrimination, and their consequences, including powerlessness and lack of access to good jobs with fair pay, quality education and housing, safe environments, and health care.”
What Are We Doing?
LTDHD recognizes that achieving our mission for health equity starts with embedding equity into daily practices. This includes ongoing equity training for staff, evaluating agency policies and procedures using a health equity lens, forming strategic partnerships, and continuously exploring other opportunities for growth. By building an environment that promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) within the agency, we are better able to promote equity in the communities we serve.
Health Equity Advisory Liaisons (HEAL) Team
The HEAL Team was created in 2022 to serve as an advisory committee to the health equity department and agency leaders. The goals of this team are to provide diverse insight into opportunities to reduce inequities within the agency and community through policy analysis and revision, advocacy, and strategic planning. The team is currently made up of 11 members that are representative of the identities that make up the Lincoln Trail District.
Equity vs Equality
Equity is not the same as equality. Equality focuses on sameness, while equity focuses on fairness. Providing the same resources, opportunities, or services to everyone does not always mean that everyone will experience the same results. Focusing on equity acknowledges the differences in access to resources and quality care among different populations. Understanding and addressing those differences creates a community where everyone can reach their full health potential.
